There have been a lot of debates about Hamburgers and Salisbury steaks. Some people think they are the same thing but called multiple name variations depending on where they live. Others may argue that there are a few different factors between the 2 recipes.
From my own experience and observation, the easiest way to differentiate Hamburger steak from Salisbury steak is that hamburger steak is simply seasoned with only salt and pepper, while Salisbury steak is mixed with more supplemental ingredients such as onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, and other seasonings.

The best way to eat hamburger, brings back childhood memories, not sure I could get the kids to eat that kind of a meal today, they are all too allergic to everything. They also used to serve that in my elementary school. You truly made that meal look so good I’m hungry now!”
ShellBells, “I took your cooking advice on backing off from mixing the hamburger meat too much, and made my hamburger-steaks more flat and also using the egg and breadcrumbs in this recipe, which I had never done before… And I have to say, your advice took my hamburger-steaks n gravy to another level. Yum Yum. We all really liked them! Thank you!!!!”
white wineaux63, “Hi Becky! Looks DELICIOUS! I have a tip for you though! If you make a dent in the middle of the meat before you cook it ,it won’t puff up and you won’t have to smash all the yummy juice out of it. Supposedly a big no-no. I love watching you!”
Is A Hamburger Steak Healthy?
In general, hamburger steak should be healthy when you use all clean, fresh, and quality ingredients. You can hardly go wrong with grade-A beef, Wagyu beef, or Kobe beef. They are all top-notch options when it comes to beef.
The hamburger steak is nutritious. It’s rich in protein and other vitamins. However, please also keep in mind that, like other types of red meats, ground beef contains a lot of calories and fat too.
One more important note is that since this dish is made with ground meat, make sure to cook it to a safe temperature. When the beef is minced, it has a higher risk of being contaminated. Please do not consume the hamburger patty when it’s undercooked for health reasons. According to USDA, the minimum temperature for ground beef is 160˚-165˚F.
If you are concerned more about healthy food, you can have more vegetable salads as side dishes to provide more fiber.
Editor’s Note
